Young Futures Fund

The purpose of the fund is to improve the quality of life for children and young people from birth – 30 in the Buckinghamshire administrative area (excluding Milton Keynes). Our Young Futures Board are looking to support local organisations to provide workshops, projects and services which improve outcomes for mental health and well-being, life skills, and economic well-being in a range of ways explained below.

How much can we apply for

  • Grants are available up to £5,000.

We are looking for support a range of projects that will contribute to one or more of the following outcomes:

  • Improved economic well-being, in particular budgeting and debt management skills.
  • Improved mental health and well-being – especially around:
  • Tackling discrimination and bullying
  • Tackling digital safety and/or inclusion
  • Vaping awareness
  • Self-care and resilience.
  • Improved nutrition.
  • New community facilities and spaces for children and/or young people.

We recognise that service providers are the experts in these fields so don’t want to be prescriptive about how these outcomes are achieved. We would be happy to hear your innovative ideas and to support “test and learn” projects, but examples of the kinds of projects that would fit the fund purpose include:

  • Activities which promote self-care and resilience and/or healthy relationships
  • Creation of new safe spaces
  • Delivery of money management and budgeting skills
  • Projects which educate on the risks and issues associated with vaping
  • Projects which support and empower children and young people in transitional moments in life (for example, leaving care, leaving home, starting or finishing uni)
  • Life skills courses such as healthy cooking and eating

Who can apply?

  • Registered charities, community groups, social enterprises, Charitable Incorporated Organisations, Community Interest companies (limited by guarantee), Community Benefit Societies or other not for profit organisations which are based in or operate for the benefit of residents in the area administered by Buckinghamshire Council. This includes parish & town councils. The groups must be formally constituted and operate for public benefit.

What can we fund?

  • Project costs for example, staffing, venue, resources, marketing Core costs, where these are required to enable the delivery of the project outcomes.
  • Capital/Equipment expenditure – we wouldn’t expect capital costs to exceed 25% of the overall project cost. Please contact us to discuss further if you think you may need to exceed this.

What can’t we fund?

  • Activities promoting a particular religious or political belief.
  • Overseas travel.
  • Projects which have already started, are already completed or are continuation of existing projects.
  • Individuals.
  • Statutory bodies – including schools but excluding parish/town councils.
  • Profit-making organisations.
  • Organisations whose principal concern is animal welfare.
  • Activity which is a statutory responsibility of a public body.
  • Organisations who have shareholders (Community Benefit Societies are permitted).
